10/26/2011 Houston—A pre-opening event at Sundance Cinemas, the motion picture theatre circuit entering the Houston market at Bayou Place, will support the year- round film program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Houston Cinema Arts Society. ―A Celebration of the Motion Picture Arts" will take place on Monday, November 21—just days before the theater opens to the public. In recent months the venue has undergone a complete renovation to create an inviting, casual atmosphere.

―We are excited about the opening of Sundance Cinemas in Houston, and are honored that our constituents will be among the first to experience their new theater," said Marian Luntz, curator of film and video at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
―Houston deserves Sundance Cinemas, and Sundance Cinemas deserves Houston," said Franci Crane, MFAH trustee, co-chair of the MFAH film committee, and founder of the Cinema Arts Festival Houston. ―Let all film buffs wholeheartedly embrace Sundance Cinema's entry into Houston."

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reception featuring craft beer, wine and specialty cocktails, tasty bites from the theater’s new Sundance Bar menu, soft drinks, and popcorn with real butter. To celebrate the occasion, welcoming remarks will be made by notable dignitaries including Franci Crane; Lynn Wyatt, founding chair of the MFAH film committee; Jonathon Glus, CEO of the Houston Arts Alliance; Andy Icken, Development Officer, Office of the Mayor, and representatives from Sundance Cinemas. Guests will then choose a film to watch—culled from the slate of movies opening at the theater on Wednesday, November 23rd – and take their seats in one of the complex’s eight theaters. The screenings will begin at 8 p.m.

Event tickets are $25 (with a $5 discount for members of the MFAH, MFAH Film Buffs, seniors, and students with valid I.D.), with all proceeds divided between the MFAH film program and HCAS. Tickets can be purchased at the MFAH ticket desks or via its website, www.mfah.org.

The theater is located in downtown Houston’s Bayou Place complex at 510 Texas Avenue. Parking tickets from the underground theater district parking will be validated for guests attending the November 21 event. To learn more about Sundance Cinemas, visit www.sundancecinemas.com.
