Houston News, Women Abducted Leaving Night Club
A night out ended in a terrifying ordeal for a woman overnight and police are saying her cell phone may have saved her life.
While the 23-year-old was leaving a bar on Richmond and Kyle, a man jumped her. The suspect pulled out a butcher knife and put her in the trunk of a Chevy Malibu. He then began driving around. The woman had her cell phone with her and called police to try and help them find her. Police tried to track her cell phone, but it didn't have GPS. Police were also asking her to listen for helicopter noise because they had the police chopper in the area.
"The only thing they could use was triangulation. We had dispatch get a hold of homicide and the cellular company," said Sgt. Stephen Leatherman with the Houston Police Department. "They worked out trying to triangulate new positions. We tried to have her listen to anything that she could hear that would give us an idea of her location or any sounds that she could identify."
After about 45 minutes, the suspect stopped and left the car not far from where the woman was initially kidnapped. Police found her about 15 minutes later. She was able to pop the trunk.
So far, police have not found the suspect. K-9 units were called out to the scene to help track him down, but authorities say they do have key evidence from the scene that could link him to the crime.
Police are interviewing the woman in hopes of getting a composite sketch. The woman wasn't injured, but was clearly shaken up.
