Houston News: Houston Mayor White to discuss Bonus Scandal

There will be big developments in the investigation into unauthorized bonuses in the mayor pro tems office, reports Houston News. A report from the Office of Inspector General is expected to be made public today.
What happened? And who's responsible? Those have been the big questions at city hall since the bonus scandal first came to light last month. Later today, Mayor Bill White will discuss a recently-released inspector general report related to what really did happen at the office of the mayor pro tem.
Four employees in that office were placed on paid administrative leave after it was discovered that someone had secured more than $140,000 in bonuses without proper approval. That's when investigators entered the office unannounced, and began pouring over documents related to those bogus bonuses.
Mayor White did review their report over the weekend, and even though he was still playing it close to the vest yesterday, he did say the suspended employees have been notified of a meeting Tuesday to discuss what happens to them next.
"Four employees have been notified concerning a hearing that's required under law before termination," said Mayor White Sunday.
Mayor Pro Tem Carol Alvarado has said the bonuses were secured without her knowledge and with her forged signature. The mayor is calling the OIG report thorough and he says most, if not all of it, will be released today.
