Houston News: NBA Players Send Gifts to Kids
Dozens of local children got a heart-felt gift from an NBA all star. San Antonio spur Tony Parker made it a very special weekend at one Houston YMCA, reports Houston News. A room filled with toys -- scooters, guitars, soccer balls and more. Everybody will get one gift. The lucky recipients are kids at a southeast Houston YMCA. Their benefactor -- none other than the San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker.
Scooters appeared to be the most popular choice for many of the kids.
Adrianna Sanchez enthused, "The scooters were the best!"
It may be cold outside but Alex Quyjada will spend the weekend zipping around on his new ride. The 13-year-old is thankful for the gift.
He said, "I know he's a nice guy. He gave a bunch of stuff to these kids."
Parker had hoped to deliver the gifts himself. His father brought them instead.
"I think Tony Parker is a really good guy because he gave us all these gifts," one child said.
A change in the NBA's All Star practice kept him from visiting the Y. Parker originally planned to stop by the center on Thursday but had to cancel because of scheduling conflicts.
"I think he gave us all of this because he really cares," said another child. "He couldn't make it but still he repaid us with all of this stuff."
Parent Tammie Bell said, "I think that takes away in some of the disappointment the kids had, because I know some of them were disappointed in not getting to see him."
Once the toys were handed out there was not a sad face in house.
"Thank you, Tony Parker!"
Only smiles from children who never imagined an NBA all star would take time to send them gifts.
