Houston News: Judge Barred Women from her Baby Shower

All she wanted was to have a baby shower, but a pregnant Houston woman says her dreams were dashed. She claims a civil court judge barred from her own party, reports Houston News. That woman is actually a clerk who once worked for Judge Tony Lindsay at the civil courthouse. That relationship is over, all because of that baby shower.
At eight and a half months pregnant, Inocensia Moreno should be beaming with joy. Instead, this soon-to-be mother finds herself in tears.
"It's been very depressing," she told us. "I really haven't had a chance to focus on a baby."
It all started about a month ago. Moreno's husband sent out an email to all his friends announcing a baby shower. Since he, too, worked for the courts, many on the list included judges and lawyers.
"Many of these people I have been to dinner with, I've been to lunch with," said Oscar Gonzalez. But just as the party was taking shape, the couple got surprising news. Judge Lindsay, Moreno's boss, ordered an investigation. The grounds -- improper solicitation from attorneys.
"If any lawyer that practices law in this county contributes anything to the hosting of the baby shower, that an order would be issued by the judge prohibiting my wife from attending," said Gonzalez.
Fuming, Moreno asked to be transferred out of Judge Linsday's court. Things, she says, only got worse.
"I was switched over to family district court and then all of a sudden demoted in my title," she said.
Judge Lindsay refused our on-camera interview. While she admits ordering the investigation, she told us, "I didn't tell anybody they couldn't have a party."
Moreno would eventually be cleared of any wrongdoing and offered her old job back. But, she says, the damage has already been done.
"All I wanted to do was share with friends the wonderful joy of God's gift of life," said Moreno.
Moreno was hoping to have the baby shower this coming weekend, but now she says she's reluctant considering what she's already been through. She's expecting her child April 5.
We checked the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct. It says court staff can receive gifts for special occasions, but only if the gift is commensurate to the occasion and relationship.
