Houston News: Cop Posing Man faces Numerous Charges
A man accused of impersonating a police officer is in custody after being sought by real police for weeks. He's wanted for impersonating a public servant. Police made the arrest Monday night, reports Houston News.
The suspect, Weylin Spradley, was arrested at Ace Bonding around 8:30pm. Ironically, it's the same bonding service he used Friday to get out of jail. Spradley had little to say in custody, but the 25-year-old had a lot to say hours before.
"I believe that they're just going after me with full force without even trying to talk to me or find out what's really going on," he told us by phone. For weeks, police have been looking for Spradley, charged with impersonating a public servant. Officers say the man who had police tattooed on his arm was now pretending to be an EMS worker, having vehicles outfitted to look like the real thing.
"Certainly, an individual who does this scares me," said Sgt. Brian Carr with the Houston Police Department. "I'd hate to think he was about to pull anyone over." Spradley, who'd been on probation for a previous crime, was wanted for a parole violation. On Friday, he turned himself in to the county, but officials admit they were unaware of his parole violation, which carried no bond.
"He was trying to take care of that part of the business," said Sgt. Bruce Carr with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "Obviously, he didn't realize there was another warrant out there looming."
Spradley walked free, forcing officials to send out another alert. That is, until Monday night when officers finally caught up with him. Spradley, in our earlier interview, denied ever breaking the law despite a similar conviction back in 2000. "This is getting really old, being on the news every day, making me look like I'm a really bad guy when I'm not," he told us.
Aside from impersonating a public servant, Spradley is charged with felony theft as well as misdemeanor theft. He's expected to be in court Tuesday.
