Houston Chinatown Asian American Business Council Meeting

Hello everyone again. It has been a while since my last posting. I was lucky enough on Friday, Feb.3 to be invited to the Asian American Business Council Meeting in Houston Chinatown MetroBank. This month's meeting was about the security in Houston Chinatown area. On hand was Chief Harold Hurtt of the Houston Police Department. He discussed the crime problems in certain parts of Houston including Southwest Houston. Crime rate decreased by 3.7% since in January 2006. Business owners in Houston Chinatown were also on hand to discuss the issue of vandalism.

I feel that security in Houston Chinatown is always going to be a big concern since Asian people are associated with carrying lots of money and drive nice cars. Organized Asian gangs have long targeted the Houston Chinatown area but things have gotten better. As the Asian American Business Council continue to push for better security, the entire Houston Chinatown area will be safer. The next issue on the agenda will be the beautification process of Houston Chinatown. The long term goal is to make Houston Chinatown a tourist destination in Houston. Projects are already in progress as some of you might have seen in an effort to revamp the area. Keep your eyes out as more construction and remodeling continues.

Next week, it is back to my routine Chinatown journey. Happy Chinese New Year!
