Houston Symphony 9/10

Houston Symphony Opening Night: Garrick Ohlsson's Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2. Pianist Garrick Ohlsson returns to the Jones Hall stage to perform the most popular piano concerto of all time. Thapsodic, voluptuous in sound, and a tour de force for the soloist, Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto has been used by Hollywood more than any other score. This program will also feature works that show off the orchestra in all its glory. Ravel's La valse, is a colorful tribute to Waltz King Johann Strauss, while Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun will charm you with its sensuous melodies. The evening closes with Ravel's mesmerizing Bolero, whose instantly recognizable theme progressively unfolds to an ecstatic climax. Show starts 7:30pm Saturday 9/10 at Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana.
